Welcome to our blog
MAY and its still cold and no definitive election outcome
Friday, May 07, 2010 The title of this blog makes me sound grumpy and I would be if my surroundings were not as pleasant, if the people who drop into the gallery were not so interesting and the work I continue to find wasn't so exciting. So I have a lot to be grateful for - even if the future of the country seems a bit shaky and the weather is too cold. I have found loads of new and very talented makers and artists. I have been busy promoting their work and the gallery on facebook and twitter and by e newsletter. The stats for this site are very good with loads of hits for all pages and the statistics for facebook are building well. Very gratifying. I have had a new section developed for the website for archived work which should go on line very soon. Anyone who knows Rivers Gallery knows that space is limited and that not all that is on the website is in here at any one time. The archive section will allow me to display work I have shown and which may be available or repeatable - so when this goes live and if you see anything that interests you, please get in touch and I will see what I can do. In the meantime I have added a number of new names and images do have a look in the gallery section and I hope to see you soon. Judi
Mothering Sunday and new work
Tuesday, March 16, 2010
Mothering Sunday, a Trip to see a rarely performed Stephen Sondeim production ‘Anyone Can Whistle’ at the Jermyn Street Theatre. Like Sondeim work I have previously seen it is very off beat and hugely enjoyable. Acting, singing, music and dancing so good. Great Mothers Day treat (also loved the choreography!). Lots of goodies and cards from my wonderful offspring and an overnight stay. This latter was partly so that I could push off early on Monday morning to see a number of artists in the home counties the first of which, Keziah Wilkes allowed me to choose some stunning bronzes and very simple very appealing life studies in chalk and pencil. I first met Keziah just as she was going off to university, I was taken with her work then and a number of years on my view hasn’t changed. These are now available in the gallery and a selection can be viewed on both the paintings page and the sculpture page – do have a look. On to Anneli Boon. I have been showing Anneli’s work for a number of years now. It is always fresh, always colourful and brings light and optimism into any living space. Anneli says her work is very much a product of her Finnish homeland – “enough is enough” and she captures and reproduces the light of her native home. Again you can see examples of her latest work on the paintings section of the website. I hope all you Mother’s out there had a lovely day as well, I hope everyone else did too. Hope to see you soon. Judi .
Have I got sculpture for you
Tuesday, March 09, 2010 I visited Jude Jelfs yesterday and came away with both wonderful bronze sculpture and beautiful jugs each with an oil painting by Jude on them. She also let me have a very witty salt glazed ceramic sculpture of Venus and Cupid - watch out Cupid Venus clearly does not rate your ability highly! These images can be found on both the sculpture and the ceramic section of the website. Also recently in, wonderful acrylic jewellery. Claire Lowe's Wool and tea leaves in acrylic jewellery is so unusual and so very wearable. Lua Lua otherwise known as Justyna Niewiara makes really bright happy acrylic jewellery and finally Jessica Sherriff aka Jessica Jewellery also makes acrylic jewellery this however, is more soft focus feminine pieces. Tasters of all of these can be found on the jewellery section of the website. Don't forget Mothers Day (as if) this Sunday perhaps flowers and a lovely gift from the gallery would be just the ticket. Come and visit again soon. Judi
I know its mother's day soon but......
Friday, March 05, 2010 Perhaps the wrong time of year to mention it but not only do I look out for unusual jewellery for women but for men too. Some men rebel a little by wearing outrageous socks with their business suits, but for an individual look without resorting to jokey socks, unique cuff links say much more. At Rivers Gallery you will find individually made cuff links by artist jewellers and designers - say no more!
The Sun is Out
Tuesday, March 02, 2010 How wonderful to see the sun two days running. Makes an optimist out of me. Today Janet Haigh an embroiderer and enamel worker popped in to see me with her enamel work. Lovely bright summery pieces which includes large bright enamel Clematis flowers to hang inside, but better outside, enamel flower holders and bright and fun enamel brooches. Janet is also going to let me have some larger enamel bowls so please come in and see this lovely cheery work. On Sunday I visited Nici Ruggiero ro select and collect work for the gallery. These magnificent, tactile pieces from her Geo range, resemble smooth marble nestling in volcanic rock. I found it difficult to stop stroking them and Nici tells me that others too find them irresistable. I also took some work from her Porcine range. Nici worked as a veterinary nurse for many years before studying applied arts, inspiration from working with pigs led to this range of rounded puckered and/or snout like raku fired pieces. On Friday last week I received some new reticulated silver work from Jolene Smith. Its all hearts. If this sun continues, I will be showing off the Lua Lua hand made acrylic jewellery very soon.
New Work New Year
Tuesday, February 16, 2010
I hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year. I spent New Year with a good friend in Back to the Gallery. Had quite a few new pieces in already, including new paintings from Mike Bell, some new sculptures from April Young, hugely amusing and attractive ceramic sculptures from Sonja Moss Dolega and new unusual jewellery including very interesting and colourful handmade acrylic pieces from Lua Lua. Over the next few weeks I am expecting much more work. These include striking wooden wall pieces from Anthony Ndikanwu expected late March; Abstract ceramic forms from well known ceramicist Antonia Salmon, expected in May; new bronzes and ceramics from the hugely popular Jude Jelfs and much more. I will, of course, send out an e-newsletter to all those on the mailing list with as many images as possible as the work comes in. So if you haven’t already do sign up, it costs you nothing but will bring a good deal of pleasure I am sure. (Go to contact page).
